Artists Arise! Polk State College is hosting our National Biennial Juried Art Exhibition in
reaction to the staggering facts regarding violence against women and girls. One Billion Rising
is named for a troubling statistic, that one in three women, or an estimated 1 billion women, will
be physically abused in her lifetime. Polk State College is requesting artwork concerning
Women's Rights and ending violence against women, from every perspective. The gallery is
accepting submissions that expose both the stories of violence and also the victories in
overcoming violence. Artist interpretations of this topic can be abstract or literal. We want to
see stories of struggle, empowerment, and victory. Students, local, and professional artists of
any gender are encouraged to apply.
Only original 2-d ,3-d, and video artworks are eligible. Local artists can drop off their artwork at the gallery, non-local
artists must submit their entries digitally to [email protected] and ship to the gallery.2-d works must be
properly wired for hanging. 3-D works must stand freely or sit on a pedestal. Largest dimensions applicable are 72” in
any direction; 2d artworks must not weigh more than 100 lbs.
January 1st- Digital Entry Deadline for non-local artists
January 8th -Digital entrants will be notified of submission status
January 21st & 22nd -Hand-delivered entries receiving 10am-2pm. Shipped artwork must arrive by January 22nd.
January 28th -Hand-delivered entrants will be notified of submission status
February 4th Reception 5-8pm, Awards at 6pm.
February 26th or 29th Artwork pick up & shipping 10am-2pm.
All entry fees and sales go to benefit the Women’s Resource center and Peace River center equally. Artist receives 70% for any
sales. 30% of sales and entry fees will be a donated to The Women’s Resource center of Florida and Peace River Center Domestic
Violence Services equally. Polk State Student Entries: 1st submission free, every subsequent submission is 10 dollars, All other
artists can submit up to 2 entries for $25, each additional entry is $10. Maximum of 8 entries per artist. Make checks payable to the Polk
State College Foundation or pay online at http://foundation.polk.edu.
Polk State College is not liable for work in transit. The Artist agrees to assume all delivery and shipping expenses.
